Biking for Charity

Some 330 employees and friends of Georgia-Pacific's Palatka facility revved up their motorcycle engines this spring for a good cause. The fourth annual GP Charitable Bike Run raised more than $9,000 for local charities.

"This event is very attractive to motorcycle enthusiasts not only because of the scenic route and social aspect of the ride, but also because every dollar contributed on the ride goes directly to organizations that make our community a better place," said Ted Kennedy, Georgia-Pacific vice president - Palatka mill.

Riders traveled 140 miles, stopping several times along the way for food and social activities. During each stop, Charity Bike Run volunteers sold raffle tickets and distributed water and snacks to riders. At the end of the ride, a drawing was held for various door prizes and everyone enjoyed a meal prepared by the Palatka Shrine Club.

In keeping with the GP core value of Safety First, the bikers traveled a total of 44,500 miles without an accident.
